Huge amounts of rain fell in a very short time in Kukmirn in the south of Burgenland on Thursday. The fire brigade was in full action and some Florianis even had to be warned.
Dark clouds gathered over the southern community of Burgenland on Thursday evening before the heavens opened and huge amounts of rain poured over Kukmirn. Within a very short time, streets and cellars were flooded.
Freight routes washed away by water
Even the sports field was flooded, and in some cases asphalted freight roads were simply washed away by the water. Sometimes it rained up to 65 liters per square meter. The Florianis had their hands full emptying cellars, clearing clogged sewers, clearing blockages and clearing the streets.
Numerous warnings
“Every second, further alarms came in through the state security center and in business operations,” a spokesperson said. Due to the large number of missions, the comrades from Eisenhüttl, Rehgraben, Gerersdorf bei Güssing, Sulz and Steingraben also had to be warned.
Several places in Burgenland affected
A total of 80 Florianis were deployed and road authority employees and citizens also helped. In addition to Kukmirn, Strem, Güttenbach, Neusiedl near Güssing and Limbach were also affected by the storm.
