The mother of the baby who died in Vienna in February, probably as a result of shaken baby syndrome, was released on Friday. According to the Vienna public prosecutor’s office, there is no longer any urgent suspicion against the 26-year-old woman. The Public Prosecution Service is investigating the parents on suspicion of murder. The father remains in custody and the 29-year-old remains under strong suspicion.
The baby’s mother took the child to a hospital at 11 p.m. on February 3, where treatment for the suspected abused child began. However, medical help came too late for the little boy.
Pronounced dead three days later
At the time he was admitted to the hospital, he probably no longer had any brain functions. Three days later, life support equipment was turned off and the boy was pronounced dead.
The hospital has notified the police
The hospital then alerted the police because the baby had brain damage, which usually indicates a so-called shaking trauma. The small body also had a broken arm and a broken rib.
As public prosecutor spokeswoman Judith Ziska announced, the cause of death has now been determined. The baby “obviously” died due to shaken baby syndrome.
