Uninvited guests left a real mess in the Thayatal Vitalbad. The criminals were not exactly squeamish in their search for valuables – the property damage ran into five figures!
Burglars hit the town of Raabs an der Thaya in the Waldviertel on the night of Thursday to Friday. There they brutally broke into the Thayatal Vitalbad and the Tennisstüberl, the police confirmed an investigation by the “Krone”. The gang of criminals left a trail of destruction, forcing the wellness oasis to remain closed on Friday.
Emergency operation for (short) holiday periods
According to estimates by swimming pool director and mayor Franz Fischer, the perpetrators have caused tens of thousands of euros in damage. “We are trying to make the full offer available to our guests again as quickly as possible,” the city boss emphasized, adding that the slump is particularly painful at a time when there are sometimes long weekends. On Saturday there was some kind of emergency operation with limited services.
Cut open safely on site
Research by ‘Krone’ showed that the perpetrators had smashed the window of the castle sauna (see photo) and thus entered the wellness oasis. Wherever the perpetrators suspected money or valuables, numerous doors, windows and other items were broken into. A safe was torn from the wall and then opened. Numerous cash registers were torn open and a daily solution worth several thousand euros was stolen.
The cash register at the entrance was also demolished
A drinks machine was also emptied and many cigarettes were stolen. Many things had to be repaired temporarily, and even the ticket office did not “survive” the brutal departure. After the crime, it was no longer even possible to accept ATMs.
