Emergency dog “Oskar” probably earned a particularly large bone on Saturday evening. In the evening, the four-legged friend found a hiker in a steep forest area above Dornbirn who the neighbor had reported missing. The 71-year-old was rescued and taken to hospital.
The 71-year-old from Dornbirn was already out for a walk on Friday afternoon. When his neighbor couldn’t reach him on Saturday, he went to the senior’s apartment. However, he only found his mobile phone there.
Because the 71-year-old has diabetes and had not brought his mobile phone, the neighbor feared the worst. He called the police and filed a missing person report. The rescuers then started a search. The police helicopter also came into action, but the elderly person could not be seen in the wooded area due to the dense trees.
Rescued from steep terrain
On a second attempt, this time with the help of a service dog, the rescuers were successful. Assistance dog “Oskar” found the missing man behind a tree outside the walking path. The 71-year-old encountered steep terrain on Friday and was unable to return to the trail without outside assistance.
Although the senior had slept in the woods from Friday to Saturday, he was doing fine. He was rescued from his predicament by the search team and taken to Dornbirn city hospital as a precaution.
