The journey over the Zirler Berg in the Tyrolean district of Innsbruck-Land was dramatic on Monday for a couple from Germany. While she was driving, her car caught fire. Another driver had to warn the driver (63) about this.
The 63-year-old German and his 62-year-old wife were driving on the B177 from Zirl towards Seefeld on Monday around 4:30 p.m. and noticed that a vehicle driving behind him flashed several times, the police described. The man drove off the road near Reith near Seefeld and was shocked to see thick smoke coming from the back of his car.
Burning car rolled into tree
The couple then quickly exited the burning car, after which it became independent and rolled into a tree. There the car eventually caught fire.
The firefighters who were called quickly brought the flames under control, but were unable to prevent the car from completely burning out. According to the police, the cause was probably a technical defect.
