This accident could have been much worse. Only the presence of mind of a bus driver prevented an 18-year-old in the Turkish capital Ankara from being seriously injured or even killed.
As video from a surveillance camera shows, the teen walked calmly across the road and stared at his smartphone. The young man was so engrossed in his mobile phone that he did not notice a bus approaching.
However, the public transport driver immediately braked and reduced the speed of his vehicle. However, he was no longer able to prevent a collision.
Bus driver: “I was waiting for him to see me”
Now the 18 year old also became aware of the bus – too late! But he suffered only minor injuries. The bus driver later told Turkish media: “I was waiting for him to see me and run away. But he didn’t.”
