An Italian nurse has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of several patients. A jury in Florence found proven on Wednesday that the 60-year-old killed four people in a hospital in the Tuscan town of Piombino between January 2014 and September 2015.
The now 60-year-old is said to have administered a lethal dose of anticoagulant to patients in intensive care.
Suspicious deaths
The case was solved in 2016 during the investigation into suspicious deaths at the hospital in Piombino. It turned out that the accused nurse was responsible for all the deceased patients.
The nurse was originally charged with ten deaths. At first instance, she was sentenced to life imprisonment in four cases in 2019, but was acquitted on appeal.
The High Court in Rome subsequently ordered a new appeal for four dead patients and confirmed the acquittals for the remaining six cases.
