ArcelorMittal proposes an ERTE for 7,000 employees, including those of Etxebarri, Lesaka and Legasa

The management is increasing the ERTE due to force majeure, following the accident that damaged blast furnace A in Gijón on Wednesday, the closure of which will affect the entire production chain of the steel company for at least two months. The unions ask to wait for the damage report to make decisions.

The address of ArcelorMittal has this Friday to the unions a Broadcast scheme file (ERTE) due to force majeure that would affect some 7000 workers of its staff in the Asturias cluster, after the accident that damaged blast furnace A in Gijón on Wednesday.

The ERTE would have consequences for the workforce of the cluster, which also includes the factory in Biscay Etxabarri, the Navarre of lesaka And Lega, like throughout Asturias and Sagunto. They have not specified how many workers in each factory are affected by the file.

The unions believe the company’s decision is premature and have asked to wait to find out the true extent of the recorded damage in the blast furnace.

The steel company expects to assess the extent of the damage within a week to assess the ability to repair facilities whose lifespan was planned to be around 2025.

Unions will encounter with the address next Wednesdayinitially programmed to proceed with the negotiation of the agreement, which will also deal with this file, together with all the data to assess the damage.

The incident will force the facilities to shut down for at least two months and so the company has proposed to apply an ERTE for all employees of its staff.
