Absolute alcohol ban? – Hard rules: Mallorca has had enough of its tourists

Date:

The popular tourist island of Mallorca has had enough! Thousands of residents are protesting against the large number of holidaymakers. The mayor now wants to take action – including an alcohol ban.

The mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, wants to take stronger action against mass tourism in Mallorca. To this end, he now presented a series of measures, some of which were quite severe. However, for much of this he needs the approval of other authorities.

The conservative politician wants to immediately implement his proposal to ban new guest beds in private holiday homes. He can also single-handedly introduce higher penalties for facilities that cause excessive pollution.

The mayor needs the approval of the Island Council & Co.
With most of his other demands the situation is different. To limit the number of holidaymakers, rental cars, cruise ships and holiday apartments, he needs approval from the island council.

The government of the Balearic Islands or even the Spanish central government should also support twice as high fees for cruise holidaymakers, a limit on the number of tourists on city tours, a restriction on rental car access to the city center, an increased presence of the local and national police and the absolute ban on alcohol agree in Madrid.

Video makes you shake your head
Meanwhile, a video that has now surfaced has people shaking their heads. After a risky maneuver on the highway in April, an island resident chased the rental car of two Britons. They tried in vain to escape from him – sometimes even in reverse gear.

The pursuer rammed the holidaymakers, gave them the middle finger and sped away. The police have now tracked down the driver and filed a report.
