The ARA air rescue team went to the Maltatal in Carinthia on Tuesday to rescue a seriously injured ice climber.
As reported by ARA Flugrettung, the RK1 rescue helicopter left the Malta Valley around 1pm on Tuesday. There, one of the three male ice climbers was hit by a falling piece of ice. “The man was seriously injured in the shoulder and chest,” said general manager Thomas Jank. The seriously injured person is a 25-year-old professional soldier from Villach, who had brought his partner to safety. The large ice shelf had suddenly detached and hit the 25-year-old.
