A traffic accident involving a car with a Swedish license plate on the B17 in the St. Egyden am Steinfeld region (Neunkirchen district) claimed four lives late on Thursday evening. Two other passengers suffered life-threatening injuries Friday morning, according to police reports.
For reasons that are still unclear, the vehicle drove through a roundabout without braking and overturned several times. Five of the six occupants were thrown from the car.
The accident happened on Thursday, shortly before 9:30 p.m. The car was driving on the B17 from Neunkirchen towards Wiener Neustadt.
Emergency services have no chance
The car ended up in a forest and stopped on its roof. The state police of Lower Austria said in a broadcast that the five people were thrown from the vehicle when they hit trees.
The fatalities – four men – died on the spot from their serious injuries. Resuscitation measures by the emergency services failed.
Duo is still in a life-threatening condition
One of the prisoners was taken to the Wiener Neustadt State Hospital and another person was flown to the Graz University Hospital with the emergency medical helicopter “Christophorus 17”. The duo was initially in a life-threatening condition. The B17 was closed from approximately 9:45 PM to 12:30 AM.
