Oath or Objection – Trump and Kids to Testify About Business Transactions

Date:

In the course of investigations into his companies’ financial transactions, former US President Donald Trump and his children Donald Jr. and Ivanka testify under oath in July. According to a new document in a New York state court, they will spend several days answering questions from the office of New York Attorney General Letitia James about business practices at the Trump Organization.

However, the Trumps could avoid this if an appeal were granted to an appeals court. A judge had already ruled in February that Trump, Don junior and Ivanka must testify. The family’s lawyers had tried to challenge this decision and shut down the investigation – so far to no avail.

James’ extensive civil investigations include allegations that Trump’s company has misrepresented the value of its properties in order to obtain credit or price advantages. Trump previously described the investigation as a “witch hunt” and accused Democrat James of being politically motivated.

Children can refuse to testify
Trump, 75, and his children can refuse to testify if they otherwise incriminate themselves. Trump’s son Eric, who had to testify under oath in this case, made use of that right hundreds of times during his interrogation. However, such a step could be regarded as disadvantageous in a possible method. Donald Trump is the founder of the Trump Organization, his two sons Donald Trump junior and Eric Trump are the vice presidents of the corporate conglomerate, which is mainly active in the real estate sector.
