Late Friday afternoon, four kayakers traveled downstream on the Danube from Linz. At the Mauthausen Bridge, water suddenly entered the two boats, causing them to capsize. A neighbor noticed the unfortunate situation and alerted the emergency services.
Towels instead of hospital
Five fire brigades arrived, some with boats. One man was able to swim to shore himself, the three others were rescued from the 16 degree cold water by firefighters.
Everyone was unharmed during the accidental swim and only needed towels and dry clothes.
