On Saturday, the SPÖ Graz together with federal party leader Andreas Babler raised a rainbow flag at the Volksgarten pavilion in Graz. Barely an hour later she was gone. An advertisement is planned.
June is all about the rainbow. During Pride Month, many people campaign for the rights of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and others from the LGBTIQ+ community. On Saturday around 10.15 am, SPÖ members raised a flag at the pavilion in the Volksgarten in Graz.
Bad surprise
Less than an hour later came the nasty surprise: the flag had disappeared, as the chairman of Soho Styria – that is the LGBTIQ organization within the SPÖ – Anna Robosch describes. A little later the colorful flag was found. Unknown people had tried to throw them into the mill.
According to Robosch, when Soho activists tried to return the flag, they were “received with hostility by a passing couple who said, ‘You should burn the flag.'”
Advertisement is being prepared
Robosch wants to report the incident on Monday. „We will report both the attack on the flag and the personal hostility towards our activists, because we do not accept the hatred at face value. And we certainly will not be intimidated, but remain openly and proudly visible.”
