When a 24-year-old Romanian wanted to go swimming in the tench holes in Hard (Vorarlberg) on Sunday evening around 6 p.m., he suddenly fell. His friends immediately called the emergency services. They rescued the young man, but he died a short time later in hospital.
No one knows exactly why the Romanian went swimming in the Schleienloch after the rainy weekend. The attempt to cross the water body, which is located in the nature reserve, failed. The 24-year-old was suddenly no longer visible.
His four friends, who had traveled with the young man from Germany, immediately called 911. 45 minutes later, rescuers rescued the lifeless swimmer from a depth of three meters. The water temperature was 14 degrees.
Rescue attempts failed
All resuscitation measures were unsuccessful. The young man was taken to the state hospital in Feldkirch, where he died around 8 p.m.
