The idyllic Wildental was the scene of a tragic alpine accident this weekend. A 26-year-old hiker was reported missing on Friday and his body was found on Saturday.
Thanks to mobile phone tracking, emergency services were able to narrow the search area to Wildental, located between Oberstdorf (D) and the Kleinwalsertal village of Hirschegg. The Alpine terrain was systematically combed on Saturday and eventually the worst fears became a sad reality: the Austrian aviation police discovered the body of the missing man under the summit of the Kemptner Köpfles.
As the Alpine Police investigation revealed, the hiker fell over rocky terrain and suffered fatal injuries. Negligence by third parties can be ruled out and therefore the Feldkirch public prosecutor did not initiate an investigation.
