Desperate Russian soldier wives with children and mothers of military servicemen gathered in front of the Defense Ministry in Moscow on Monday and urged talks with new minister Andrei Beloussov. Prison transporters quickly rushed to the scene, but the women refused to be driven away and instead fell to their knees.
“Please take my father home,” “Those mobilized must go home,” “Andrei Beloussov, talk to us,” read posters and banners that women kneeling held in their hands. Immediately after the women gathered in front of the Ministry of Defense, a prison transport van with police officers stopped at their home, Sotavision reports.
“Come on, do it! ‘Drag soldiers’ wives into prisoner transport vehicles,’ a courageous voice addressed the officials.
Shortages and other problems at the front
A short time later a man in an officer’s uniform appeared. According to the Kremlin critical portal “Ostorozhno, novosti,” the women complained to the Defense Ministry representative about their treatment of the soldiers. They also criticized that there were problems with the operations and that it was not okay for the men to remain in the war zone indefinitely. The representative simply replied: An order was needed to bring the men back home, but there was none.
As if that wasn’t enough, the military accused the women of taking to the streets on purpose and only so that the opposition Telegram channels could film them. This was done out of pure sensationalism. “After something like that, you no longer have to call yourself a citizen of Russia,” the man complained. And then – completely unexpectedly, as is often the case in Russia – he began to notice the problems that the women complained about. He even noted in which unit the men served.
Regular soldiers must serve in Ukraine until the end of the war
The Russians drafted into the war as part of the mobilization will practically not be able to return to their homeland until the end of hostilities. The Kremlin emphasizes that the legislation does not provide for changes in the armed forces. Their mission will only end when the ‘special military operation’ is over. Many family members do not want to accept these conditions and have now formed corresponding movements. Many members have already fallen victim to reprisals.
