After the bloody crime on Monday evening in St. Stefan ob Leoben in Upper Styria, the police are now providing the first details: the man probably first shot his wife and then committed suicide.
A neighbor heard several shots Monday evening and called police. When they arrived in the Vorlobming district, the officers found a lifeless woman in the garden and a dead man in the house. As the investigation by the criminal investigation department showed, the 45-year-old from the Graz district may have escaped from the (uninhabited) parental home of her 52-year-old husband; the Styrian chased her with two firearms and shot his wife. He then entered the house and committed suicide.
The couple has not been spotted by the police so far
Both weapons were seized by the police, the Leoben public prosecutor’s office ordered an autopsy on the two bodies and called in a shooting expert.
The couple has not yet appeared to the police and there are no indications of violent confrontations. The motive for the crime is therefore still unclear. The questioning of witnesses from the couple’s immediate environment is currently underway.
