The employers’ association of transport employers Guipuzcoan regrets “the consequences” that the strike of the agricultural and livestock sector has caused for transporters, “in a context of extreme difficulties.”
The Gipuzkoan Transport Employers Association Guitrans on Tuesday denounced the “very large and irreparable” losses caused to this sector by the farmers protest on the border of Irun (Gipuzkoa).
“Freight transport is once again the hardest hit“Guitrans states in a note in which it regrets “the consequences” that the strike in the agricultural and livestock sector between June 3 and 4 has caused for transporters carrying out international shipments and for shipping companies on this side of the border. which “depend on merchandise from France.
“A truck loses 55 euros per hour that remains in the hold, in addition to the loss of shipments that can no longer be exported,” he emphasizes, recalling that “more than 10,000 vehicles per day cross the Biriatou border”, meaning that the losses turn out to be ‘millionaires’ to be.
‘We also have to take into account the subsequent consequences of the blockade“, which has resulted in “35 kilometers of delays with all high occupancy roads, NI, A-15, AP-8 collapsed for hours and thousands of trucks stuck in delays,” Guitrans explains.
Also remember that this entire situation occurs “in a context of extreme problems for the transport sectorwhich also suffers from unfair competition from companies that work below cost.”
“We are aware – explains Guitrans – that farmers have reasons to meet their demands, but they must take into account that our sector is not part of the problem and is nevertheless heavily affected.”
“The losses are very large and irreparable”, something that a sector such as the primary sector “which experiences the crisis first-hand” must “appreciate”, says the employers’ organization in the transport sector.
