A New York couple made a highly unusual discovery in a pond in the metropolis. While magnet fishing, Barbara Agostini and James Kane found approximately 100,000 dollars (almost 92,000 euros) in banknotes in a rusty and completely muddy safe.
“It was kind of surreal,” Agostini said. “At first I thought it was a joke.” The two magnetic fishermen had often found safes in ponds, lakes and other water masses in New York, but never with such a content.
I’ve taken bundles of money to the police
The two took their find to the New York Police Department (NYPD) to ‘stay out of any trouble’. A police spokesperson confirmed that in principle ‘any discovery of money worth ten dollars or more should be reported to the police’.
A couple wants to convert their find into cash
The couple now wants to take their find to the Treasury Department in Washington so they can convert it into cash.
