The B159 at Pass Lueg in Salzburg is closed for an extended period. A stone fell on the road on Tuesday and clean-up work is currently in full swing. The large quantities of wood, rubble and stone will be removed by helicopter on Thursday.
The closure on Salzachtalstrasse in the municipality of Golling will last for several more days. “Unfortunately, the critical area above the destroyed protective fence is larger than expected. The road maintenance department employees need support with the help of a helicopter to remove the loose rock and wood,” explains state geologist Rainer Braunstingl.
Opened this week
However, the intention is that the B159 will be free again this week.
Monika Vogl, district governor of Tennengau, said: “The road cannot be reopened until the danger has been averted. Of course the current situation is unpleasant, but safety for everyone comes first.”
