For a 56-year-old woman from Vorarlberg who was on her way to Lienzer Spitz in Switzerland around 9:45 am on Thursday, all help came too late after she fell on the southern rock face. She could only be found dead.
The 56-year-old climbed with a companion over the Plofora towards Lienzer Spitz. For reasons still unclear, she stumbled just before the ridge towards the summit and fell several hundred meters.
Search flight started
Her companion then alerted the cantonal emergency call center of St. Gallen, whereupon the Swiss Air Rescue Rega launched a search flight. A little later the woman from Vorarlberg was found southeast of the foot of the wall.
However, the rescuers could only determine that the mountaineer was dead. She was recovered by Rega. The exact cause of the accident is still being clarified by the Alpine Task Force of the St. Gallen Cantonal Police.
