A row in the street led to a police operation in Vienna-Favoriten late Friday night. For two police officers, this ended with injuries in the hospital.
Witnesses noticed the loud argument between a man and a woman on Laaer-Berg-Strasse and alerted the police around 11:30 PM. When officers arrived on the scene, they were confronted by a very aggressive 29-year-old man. The suspect, a Bulgarian citizen, would not calm down – despite several warnings from the police officers.
Violent resistance to arrest
Finally, the arrest was made, against which the suspected perpetrator vigorously defended himself. He punched and kicked the officers. The 29-year-old suspect was eventually overpowered, but two of the police officers were injured in the arrest.
“Both had to be treated in hospital,” police spokesman Markus Dittrich said on Sunday. “One of the two was unable to continue his shift.”
