A 29-year-old German holidaymaker went on a climbing tour near Döbriach in Carinthia on Saturday afternoon with her 25-year-old partner. But then she started having circulatory problems.
The two holidaymakers were on the via ferrata “Luft unter den Solen” on the broad face in Döbriach around 4 pm. “Many climbers underestimate this climb,” reports Robert Schleiner, head of the Radenthein Mountain Rescue Service. “She is very naked and demanding.”
Feeling weak for the crux
Shortly before reaching a particularly difficult key point, the 29-year-old developed circulatory problems. She slipped into her via ferrata set and slightly injured herself. But now the two were stuck in the wall.
“She couldn’t handle the descent to the base of the wall on her own anymore. Climbing over the crux was of course out of the question,” explains Schleiner. “Luckily they did just the right thing and saved themselves in a ‘rest room’ in the wall and made the emergency call there.”
Shortly before nightfall, the alarmed mountain rescue team in Radenthein and a police officer from the Alpentaskforce reached the German couple. They then rappelled the 29-year-old back to safety – the mission was completed shortly after 9 p.m.
