While the investigation was initially based on intentional infliction of serious bodily harm, the Ried Public Prosecution Service has now filed charges against a 46-year-old for attempted murder. As reported, the Turk allegedly stabbed his former business partner ten times with a screwdriver in a pizza-kebab restaurant in Ried on April 28.

“The summary results of the investigation, including a video we have of the events of the crime, allow us to conclude that the suspect intended to kill and would have done so if others had not intervened,” explained officer of Justice Alois Ebner. The victim suffered a stab in the lung, which was acutely life-threatening. The 44-year-old was taken by the emergency doctor to Ried Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and was subsequently treated in intensive care.
Money problems like Tatmotiv
The motive may have been a long-standing dispute over money. “The motive for the crime was apparently money problems from a previous business relationship between the perpetrator and the victim, which left the now accused feeling ripped off by the victim and left with high financial debts that threatened his existence,” Ebner said. The suspect essentially admits to the crime, but claims he had no intent to injure or kill.
Life imprisonment possible
If convicted, the innocent suspect faces a prison sentence of ten to twenty years or life in prison. There is no date yet for the jury trial. The suspect’s father-in-law was also present during the crime. He allegedly held the victim during the attack. However, the father-in-law faces separate proceedings for complicity in the crime.
