Taxi drivers in Hall in Tirol are currently dissatisfied. The reason for this is the owners of a snack stall on the Lower Town Square. “The operator’s husband reports everyone regularly,” says MR (name known to the editors) in an interview with the “Krone”.
He was a taxi driver himself for a number of years and still keeps in touch with his colleagues. “This has been going on for about three months,” says R. In concrete terms, the man from the operator has filed a report against the taxi drivers because they kept crossing a barrier and standing in a no-parking zone directly in front of the snack stall. “I have received several fines myself,” claims one of the active taxi drivers, who wishes to remain anonymous.
“Tourists are also often verbally abused”
But that’s not all: “There is a public toilet next to the snack stall. The man recently shouted at a tour group from South Tyrol that they should relieve themselves somewhere else. So he not only terrorizes us, but also others. The police keep coming because of this,” claim R. and the anonymous taxi driver.
Because of the problem, all taxi drivers also went to Mayor Christian Margreiter. “He told us that he did not want to get involved in this kindergarten,” complains R. The “Krone” wanted to get an explanation from Margreiter. They say he’s on vacation these days. The operator of the snack stall was also unavailable.
Problem known to police
The police confirm that there is always commotion at the snack stall. “We are aware of the problem,” said a spokesperson for the Hall office. And furthermore: “The taxi drivers have an official stand across the street. But since it is often full, they park on the other side in front of the stand. Parking is actually prohibited there. The problem, however, is that the exhibitor himself is also banned from parking.”
The official cannot confirm whether multiple complaints have actually been received against the taxi drivers. ‘But I know that several complaints have already been received.’ The board always tries to ‘resolve the dispute’. It remains to be seen if and when peace will return to Lower Town Square.
