Following the UN Security Council-approved resolution establishing a three-phase plan to end the war in Gaza, Hamas has said it is ready to “work with mediators” to engage in indirect negotiations on the matter.
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) expressed its satisfaction on Tuesday with the resolution approved yesterday by the UN Security Council, which sets out a three-phase plan to end the war in Gaza.
As Hamas said in a statement, it is willing to work with the mediators to enter into indirect negotiations on the implementation of these principles, “which are in line with the demands of our people and our resistance.”
The resolution was adopted by 14 votes in favor, with a Russia’s only abstentionand it is the fourth approved by the UN Security Council on the war in Gaza, although the previous three remained in vain following Israel’s contempt and the continuation of the offensive, which has already killed more than 37 Gazans.
The Joe Biden’s proposal includes a “total and complete ceasefire”, the release of hostages held by Palestinian militias, the transfer of the bodies of hostages and the release of Palestinian prisoners.
Furthermore, the text contains an unequivocal “rejection of any attempt at territorial or demographic change in Gaza, including any action to reduce its territory”; a message addressed to the ‘hard wing’ and extremists of the Israeli government.
In the final paragraph, it reiterates the importance of uniting Gaza and the West Bank under the power of the Palestinian Authority (PA), something opposed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has not yet made public his post-war plans.
For his part, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas appreciated the adoption of this resolution as a “step in the right direction to stop the current war of genocide,” according to the Palestinian agency Wafa, and also urged its implementation.
