A 21-year-old Austrian was arrested in Vienna’s Margareten district on Friday evening after breaking into several cars. Police discovered him when he tried to hide under a car.
Passers-by alerted the police when they found three cars in a garage with their side windows smashed. At the scene, officers found a man hiding under a car.
Face and hand injured
The 21-year-old was then checked. He had injuries to his face and one hand. When the police wanted to call an ambulance, he refused. When searching his backpack, officers discovered several identification cards and debit cards – which obviously did not belong to the young man, police said.
Burglary denied
In an initial interview, the Austrian denied that he had broken into the cars and stolen the items. An identity card was found in one of the vehicles that was broken into. The 21-year-old was arrested and is in pre-trial detention.
