The works council has requested ‘commitment from the parties involved to look for an alternative with an industrial plan’.
Navarrese bus company Sunsundegui has already approached more than ten investors to save the Alsasua bodywork factory, although this work has not resulted in a final bid, the Minister of Industry of the Navarre government told a parliamentary committee on Wednesday, Mikel Irujo.
Sunsundegui, the director said, has announced bankruptcy proceedings because the situation is “extremely vulnerable” due to the company’s financial and treasury status. “There is no box,” he emphasized. However, the company has finally managed to pay September payrolls.
Their situation has also led to delays in payments to suppliers, causing closures and problems at several suppliers.
Irujo has indicated that a report from external consultancy KPMG shows that Sunsundegui has a business plan in place that would allow it to invoice 81 million in 2025, selling 530 units. This figure increased to 656 units sold by 2028, allowing the company to achieve a turnover of more than 100 million.
The report highlights the company’s increasing debt burden, which stands at 48.8 million euros as of June 30.
The works council demands alternatives
The works council, for its part, has requested a ‘commitment from the parties involved to look for an alternative with an industrial plan’.
The workers’ representation has indicated that “neither the staff nor anyone in this area understands that in a few months we have not been able to create 800 jobs, but that we risk losing everything” and has emphasized that “ the staff has made numerous efforts in their working conditions in recent years.
“We believe that, given the severity of the situation, we can get an opportunity, because we believe that Sunsundegui is a company with a market of strategic importance for Alsasua, our region and for all of Navarre,” he stressed.
For all these reasons, the works council has organized a demonstration this Sunday at 12 noon under the motto ‘Sunsundeguik etorkizuna du, konponbidea Orain’.
