Allegation of abuse – Marc D. in fear of death: threats at American ports

Date:

A 24-year-old Viennese man is still awaiting charges of child abuse and kidnapping in Florida (USA) – while the family cannot afford bail, Marc D. is now threatened with prison.

Family D. spends anxious hours in Vienna-Favoriten. After her son Marc was arrested, every hour feels like a whole year for simple deli worker Verena (41). But the mother of three must now stay strong: for her son, who is imprisoned in Florida, and his younger half-siblings (12 and eight years old).

According to the ‘Krone’ report, a wave of sympathy washes over the humble delicatessen worker, but the financial problems remain.

Especially since Marc’s bail alone amounts to 160,000 euros and the amount is simply unbearable: “We scrape everything together, but we cannot get him released,” says Verena D. with tears in her eyes. The additional legal costs are also likely to reach astronomical heights. Lawyer Carl-Christian Thier tries to pull strings in the background to hire top experts in the field of American criminal law at a minimum rate, but their ‘Körberlgeld’ is also not without money.

Without bail, Marc’s life is at stake
Thier explains: “I can help a little, but for such a delicate case you need a whole team of lawyers.” Meanwhile, Marc not only has to deal with terrible prison conditions, but his life is also in danger. Fellow detainees may have discovered the reasons for his pre-trial detention and this could have serious consequences for suspected sex offenders and child abductors, and not just in the US. Verena D.: “I’m shaking for my life now!”

The news of her son being released from prison is frightening. “Hello, please, please save me. People (…) are threatening me now. “I didn’t say anything and I won’t say anything now,” he wrote. Marc is an IT technician and is considered an introvert and kind-hearted person.

What is especially bitter is that the sometimes very suggestive messages from his 15-year-old chat friend will probably not be allowed in court. The family’s last hope is that the US law enforcement agency will find the girl’s fake ID, which, by the way, showed that she was 19 years old. A nervous thriller – and time is running out!

Crown newspaper: Mr. Thier, your law firm represents Marc, what is the status of his case?
Carl Christian Thier: We are still waiting for the investigation to be completed so that we can develop a strategy.

What does the suspect need now?
Frankly, a lot of money and a whole team of lawyers. The allegations are serious.

But the girl allegedly showed him a fake ID?
We can’t verify this yet, but in general, fake IDs are common in Florida. However, ignorance does not protect against punishment.

What threatens Marc D. now?
Up to 30 years in prison for all violations. But we really hope that we can successfully defend him against the prosecution’s charges.
