According to Russian sources, heavy fighting has broken out in parts of the northeastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv. Meanwhile, Russia is once again plagued by drone attacks.
“The enemy is sending reserves and trying to launch a counterattack, but is encountering stiff resistance from our forces,” said Vitaly Ganchev, the Russian-appointed governor of Moscow-controlled areas in the Kharkiv region.
Russian troops have repulsed recent Ukrainian counterattacks at Wolchansk, five kilometers across the border. Russian troops invaded parts of the Kharkiv region last month, capturing a dozen villages, according to official figures.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky assured that Kiev’s armed forces would gradually expel Russian forces from the disputed territory.
Oil depots are on fire in Russia
Meanwhile, in the Russian city of Azov in the Rostov region, oil storage facilities caught fire after a Ukrainian drone attack, according to the responsible governor:
“According to the first information, there are no casualties,” the governor of the southern Russian region, Vasily Golubev, said via the short message service Telegram. The investigation is still ongoing and the local fire brigade is trying to get the fires under control.
