Investigators have found cocaine in banana boxes in the Czech Republic. A total of 840 kilograms of white powder was seized in two supermarkets in northeastern Bohemia, police said Friday evening. The value of the drugs on the black market was estimated at more than 80 million euros.
After the finds in the towns of Jicin and Rychnov nad Kneznou, police and customs officials are now required to check all other stores where the goods from this shipment went. The national special unit to fight drug crime has taken over the investigation and wants to work with international colleagues.
Delivery from Colombia
According to information from the Czech public broadcaster CT, the banana shipment came from Colombia and was shipped to Europe via Hamburg. It is probably the largest cocaine find in the Czech Republic to date. The cocaine, which was pressed into bricks, is said to be of a high degree of purity.
A similar case occurred in April 2015, when more than 100 kilograms of cocaine were discovered in a supermarket in Prague.
