A Stradivarius violin, which was used to record the soundtracks of several Hollywood films, among other things, was auctioned in New York for about 15 million dollars (about 14.3 million euros).
The violin, made in 1714 by Italian instrument maker Antonio Stradivari and last owned by a Japanese collector, sold for $15.34 million, according to New York auction house Tarisio.
Soundtrack for “The Wizard of Oz”
Russian-American musician Toscha Seidel used the instrument for a long time and used it to record the soundtrack for the Hollywood classic “The Wizard of Oz” (1939) and other films. The auction house initially did not say who bought the violin.
