An EUA at the former Cementos Rezola will affect 56 employees, half of the workforce

The company Heidelberg Materials (former Rezola cement) has submitted a work regulations file (ERE) in the cement production plant it has in the San Sebastian neighborhood of Añorga. The ERE will have an influence 56 employeesabout half the teamThe company and the unions report this.

According to the company, they have designed an “employment alternative for all affected people.” That’s why it offered 15 early retirement30 removals internally (in other factories of the group) and 11 external moves.

As indicated by the unions, the company has offered the possibility of internal relocation fifteen place in the factory Arrigorriaga (Bizkaia), which will centralize clinker production with a “more efficient” factory.

Both sides met yesterday, Tuesday, to negotiate the ERE announced on June 10, when the company reported the suspension of clinker production as part of a process of decarbonizing cement production.

Heidelberg Materials has indicated that it will invest 32 million euros in the period 2024-2026 aimed at decarbonizing both factories. Half of these investments, the group said, will be earmarked for Añorga, to transform the factory into a factory specialized in sustainable cements and a center of excellence and innovation in construction solutions with a low environmental footprint.

The works council, for its part, has rejected in a statement the approach of management, which has asked for the plans to be paralyzed and the ERE to be withdrawn. In his opinion, “the company’s goal is not to initiate a low-carbon process, but rather to transfer Añorga’s work to other centers.”
