Her care routine almost prevented a young Swiss woman from going on her dream vacation to the US. The explosives test at the airport came back positive – to the 28-year-old’s shock. The culprit was the facial cream she applied as usual in the morning…
28-year-old Marina Fischer talked about the incident on the video platform TikTok, which made her sweat profusely at Zurich airport. She wanted to fly to Miami and was already at the gate. She was selected for explosives control. To her surprise, the test came back three times in a row – the young Swiss woman did not know it.
Here the young woman talks about her experiences at the airport:
After the first test, the airport employee asked what Marina had done before they drove to the airport. Marina couldn’t think of anything unusual: she got up, had breakfast, and then took the bus and train. After the third test, she asked the passenger again to remember exactly what she had done. All other passengers were already on the plane at that time.
The employee asked the passenger to wash his hands
The Swiss woman went through her morning routine again. “Woke up, showered, applied lotion…” the traveler summarized. And with that, the mystery for the employee was solved. She told Marina to go to the toilet as quickly as possible and wash her hands there. To the relief of everyone involved, the final test was negative.
It turned out that her face cream was the cause of her safety discomfort. She still had residue of it on her fingers and it contained glycerin, a substance that is also found in explosives. Therefore, the test led to a false alarm.
Those affected after a happy ending: “Wash your hands!”
Thanks to the helpful staff member, Marina was able to catch her flight. “I was the last to board the plane and then reached Miami,” says the Swiss. Thanks to the positive outcome, this anecdote is now a ‘funny story’ that she likes to tell. “Friendly reminder: wash your hands!” she tells her followers.
