Gatsch, rain – the Nova Rock 2022 was in danger of becoming a disaster when it was “reborn” after a two-year Corona break. Heavy rain on Thursday resulted in muddy parking spaces and long traffic jams on arrival. Performances also had to be cancelled. But the organizers braved the adverse conditions, made a virtue of necessity and were eventually rewarded for their efforts: the collapse could be “avoided”, but the extra costs run into the millions. It doesn’t matter to the fans: the better weather conditions made for an even better atmosphere. The Italian band Maneskin became the secret headliner on the second day of the festival on Friday.
The mud chaos was followed by the perfect festival day: on Friday, Nova Rock had good music, sun and a lively crowd for the stages. The big winners were Maneskin, who put on an energetic rock show. Afterwards there was also a great atmosphere at Kraftklub, while at the same time headbangers got their money’s worth at Korn. The Placebo, who came in for Foo Fighters, also convinced the fans.
But young bands also know how to play real rock. Maneskin came to NovaRock, put in a perfect performance and cleaned up. The Italians were the secret headliners at Pannonia Fields. The quartet, which made a name for itself last year by winning the Eurovision Song Contest, impressively proved that it is not a piece of cake, but has the potential for something very big. “It’s about having fun and sharing the energy with the audience,” says singer Damiano David.
rain and fatigue? Long forgotten!
The mood didn’t die off at Kraftklub, it was really tight for the Blue Stage, people were dancing and singing along. The mix of indie, rock and rap with German lyrics still works. And the metal heads? Were served by Korn on the Red Podium, although the American band initially struggled with a mixed sound. Healing, Dog eat Dog and While She Sleeps also impressed the crowd. Loud guitars, massive breakdowns and a lot of movement in the pits were a guarantee for sweaty, but also happy faces. rain and fatigue? were long forgotten at this point.

On Saturday, people shook the Pannonia Fields again. Besides old warhorses like Bad Religion or The Offspring, the Danes Volbeat present their Elvis Metal, while Seiler and Speer bring Austropop up-to-date in their own way. If that’s too easy for you, you can practice Dadaism and party ecstasy at Deichkind. Life must go on – and so should the festival.
