Russian airstrike – Several energy facilities in Ukraine damaged

Date:

A heavy Russian airstrike has hit several energy supply facilities in Ukraine. The exact size has yet to be determined, the state operators announced Thursday morning. Factories in the Donetsk and Kiev regions are among others affected.

According to regional information, a power line and an unspecified industrial facility were hit in the Kiev region. Explosions were reported in the city of Dnipro and the Zaporizhia region on Thursday evening. According to Ukrainian information, the Russian air force used cruise missiles, guided missiles and combat drones. Almost all of them were intercepted. The military’s statements could not be independently verified.

Zelensky promises solutions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has now promised solutions “to safely get through the heating season.” The time is “extremely difficult” due to bottlenecks and power outages. Currently, people in Ukraine are living with severe energy rationing. This means that the electricity is repeatedly turned off for extended periods of time during the day.

According to Zelensky’s previous statements, the Russian military has now destroyed nine gigawatts of energy capacity. That’s half of what the war-torn country had available last winter. The politician repeatedly calls for strengthening air defenses to prevent attacks on energy objects or at least make them more difficult (see video above).

Fires in fuel depots
Russian authorities reported further fires in two fuel depots. Fifteen drones were shot down, according to the Ministry of Defense. This information also could not be independently verified. The attacks in the hinterland are mainly intended to disrupt the fuel supply to the Russian army.
