New “late express train” – After the deportation scandal, another train on the western route

Date:

The case caused a stir: a woman from St. Pölten reported to the “Krone” that she had been thrown out of a Nightjet train with a valid train ticket on which she wanted to travel home from Vienna late in the evening. The ÖBB responded to the matter and added another special express train to the Westbahn for the “late commuters” from Vienna.

“It was accompanied by about ten police officers. “Suddenly they separated in the compartment,” the woman recalls, recalling scenes she “could only imagine in a movie.” Then everything happened very quickly: because she could not show a reservation, the woman was thrown from the train, along with, according to her estimate, twenty other passengers.

“One elderly lady was visibly disturbed and did not know what to do next – as there was no further information at this time,” she added. What irritates the climate ticket holder: “When I looked at the connection on the internet, it clearly stated that it was only recommended and not mandatory to make a reservation: but I was sitting in a seat that was marked as free.”

New, last train connection for commuters can accommodate 300 people
But it is precisely this last train that many Lower Austrians rely on as a late connection – unlike the Viennese, this is the only way to make the (longer) way home by train. Bernhard Rieder, spokesperson for the ÖBB Group, responded: “We have now set up a relieving late connection that runs from the main station to Linz five minutes before the Railjet every day at 10:50 p.m. The express train is specifically intended for commuters on the western route, has a capacity of 300 seats and arrives in St. Pölten after just 35 minutes.”
