“Make love, don’t war!” – Huge crowd at the rainbow parade on the Ring

Date:

The annual rainbow parade around the Wiener Ring started on Saturday afternoon. It is one of the highlights of Vienna Pride 2022, which will take place from June 1 to 12. At 11:30 am the first participants gathered at Rathausplatz to stand up for the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, intersex and queers.

The organizers expect more than 250,000 participants who will depart from Rathausplatz on foot, by bike or on truck trailers from 1 p.m., moving further backwards past Parliament, Opera, Urania, past Franz-Josefs-Kais, the exchange and University back to City Hall Square. After that, the celebrations and demonstrations continue in front of the town hall square around 6 pm.

Sufficient water points are also provided. Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. you can refill your own water bottles in the Burgtheater.

Extensive line-up
The subsequent theater program on Rathausplatz continues into the late evening hours. The musical line-up features well-known artists such as DragJane Ginger Red, Florian Loveshack, Pop:sch, Pussy Power and Möwe.

Ring barrier and diversions
The first ring barrier was placed between Operngasse and Schottengasse at 8.30 am. The ÖAMTC still recommends using the metro lines. The tram lines 1, 2, 31, 71 and D as well as the inner-city bus lines are briefly served or diverted.

“Proud Against Hate – Make Love, Not War”
Vienna Pride 2022 this year will be dominated by the Russian war of aggression and especially the solidarity of the LGBTIQ community with Ukraine. The motto is: “Proud against hate – make love, not war”. The organizers have already made a big announcement for next year: “Next year we’ll be back with the Pride Village. Even bigger and more spectacular.”
