Despite the heat, a ‘Krone’ reader preferred to stay dry, for fear of poisoned water. However, the city of Vienna’s water board has given the green light.
Nowadays, anyone who has a water point on their doorstep is lucky. But this is of little use to “Krone” reader Josef T. When he wanted to go swimming for the first time in the Hirschstetten swimming pond two days ago, he made an unpleasant discovery.
“I didn’t dare go in”
The bank was heavily soiled. “The water was in such a terrible state that I didn’t dare go in,” said T. Even though it was more than 30 degrees, he decided to sweat rather than expose himself to danger. But what’s wrong with the water?
Water boards give the signal
The “Krone” asked the water regulator: “During an inspection, no foam formation or any other contamination was found on the above-mentioned part of the bank of the Hirschstetten swimming pond. The dirt may have already been dissolved. In any case, it will continue to be monitored.” In any case, there is certainty for bathing beauties: jumping into the cool water is completely harmless.
Recently, waters in far southern regions made headlines. Muddy water in the Adriatic Sea near Croatia spoiled the swimming pleasure of many holidaymakers. The algae introduced there had turned the sea into a brown soup.
