A Carinthian man suffered 750,000 euros in damages after a devastating fire on his property. And even though he was heavily insured, after a years-long lawsuit against the insurance company, he only gets almost a third of his money back. Because the man – like thousands of others – had missed a small detail in police policy.
The farmer from Carinthia had been paying home and fire insurance premiums for years. When damage occurred and the building burned down six years ago, he was confident that he would be compensated for the major damage as soon as he could rebuild everything. But the insurance company turned him down. Rightly so, as it turned out during the trial. “This would not have happened if everyone had read and checked the insurance conditions,” warns lawyer Hans Toriser. And explains what exactly happened.
