The lights went out at the Maxim in Steyr (Upper Austria). A new operator is now being sought for the 550-year-old Laufhaus in the city centre.
Austria’s – if not Europe’s – oldest brothel can be found in the Steyrer Badgasse and is now available again. The estate agent Maximilian Mayrhofer is looking for a new tenant. At the end of last year, the lights went out in the historic brothel.
4800 euros monthly lease
For the establishment directly on the medieval city wall of Steyr, 4,800 euros must be paid monthly. A fee is not required. Only a security deposit of 15,000 euros is required. “For that you get a brothel with a very special atmosphere. It was open before America was even discovered,” says Mayrhofer.
Gates were first opened in 1477
The brothel first opened its doors in 1477 and has of course had a lot to endure in the almost 550 years. Nevertheless, the unique barrel vaults and net vaults have been preserved. The permits have also never been lost. “They are related to the building. A new application for a concession would now never go through,” Mayrhofer is convinced.
Near a school and church
There is a church and a school in the immediate vicinity of the brothel. In total, the Laufhaus has a usable area of 325 square meters. In addition to the bar area on the ground floor, there are eight rooms on the first floor. The tenant can rent this to eight women. As a self-employed person, you can practice the oldest profession in the world.
Penthouse is also for rent
By the way, if you don’t just want to rent the Maxim, you can rent a commercial space on the ground floor and a new penthouse above the building.
