11 municipalities of Donostialdea have agreed to the creation of one Special regime area (ZRE) of taxis so that urban transport cars can offer their services in different cities in the region depending on demand peaks.

The municipal council of Saint Sebastian He was the last to approve the introduction of this taxi zone. This opens the door for 118 of these cars to work occasionally in the capital Gipuzkoa.

So San Sebastián joins us Hernani, Astigarraga and Lasarte-Oria at the signing of the inter-administrative agreement that makes this possibility possible and which will be ratified next week Urnieta and Errenteria.

All these municipalities will be part of the first phase of the implementation of this Special Zone, which must soon be approved by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and which they are expected to join. Usurbil, Pasaia, Andoain, Oiartzun and Lezoonce they have approved this agreement.

The Mayor of San Sebastian, Eneko Goiastressed that the agreement ratified by the City Council “aims to improve the city’s taxi service and be able to meet peak demand through the municipal permits that currently exist, both in Donostia and in other neighboring municipalities.”

Goia has announced that in the coming days it will ask the Provincial Council to also “approve” the agreement with the municipalities that have already signed the agreement and to act with “maximum speed” in order to be able to activate it “as soon as possible ” to be “up and running” this summer.

The agreement, which will be valid for four years and can be extended for another four years, set the days and times in which this special zone will be in force.

With the creation of the new Special Regime Zone, 118 additional taxis will be added to the 308 that the municipality has, “contributing to improving the balance between supply and demand, especially in those cases where it would be necessary to respond to demand peaks. excess of service”.

In this way, now that the ZRE is in force, the urban transport service will be supplemented with the possibility that taxis from one of the agreed municipalities can provide urban services in another, as long as the Zone is in force in the corresponding municipality according to the approved calendar . For example, on the days and hours when the ZRE is in force in San Sebastián, taxis from the other municipalities will be able to provide urban services in the city.
