Jaguar driver crashes into furniture store with alcohol level over 1.5 per mille

A spectacular accident took place early Thursday evening in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen, which borders Vorarlberg. In Schwarzenach near Wil, a 62-year-old man drove his Jaguar SUV backwards into the display of an Austrian furniture store chain, causing enormous damage.

A 62-year-old man was driving his red Jagura F-Pace in the parking lot of an Austrian furniture store chain at around 5:55 p.m. As he pulled out of a parking space, he lost control of his SUV and reversed it over some furniture on display outside.

He then drove his car into the window and a short distance into the store. The shop window and other furniture and goods were damaged. The material damage amounted to tens of thousands of euros.

An on-site alcohol test showed the man had a blood alcohol level of 1.54. The 62-year-old’s driver’s license was confiscated on the spot and he is facing charges.
