Disruptions planned? – British police arrest 27 climate activists

Date:

Climate change group Just Stop Oil is said to have planned to disrupt air traffic at several British airports during the summer holidays. As a result, police have arrested 27 people across the country in recent days, authorities announced on Friday. The organisation strongly criticised the approach and said it would not be intimidated.

“We know that Just Stop Oil is planning to disrupt airports across the country this summer, which is why we have taken swift and decisive action now,” said Chief Inspector Ian Howells of London Police, according to the statement. The conservative government has repeatedly tightened the right to demonstrate in recent years.

The group published an arrest of an activist in this message:

Arrests at airports, gatherings and in homes
On Tuesday, four people were arrested at Gatwick Airport south of London and later released on conditions, the police statement said. A further six people were taken into custody in east London on Thursday for taking part in a “publicly announced event to promote airport disruption”. Ultimately, the police arrested seventeen people in their homes at various locations on Friday.

Organization: “Designated as dangerous radicals”
“You are suspected of being a Just Stop Oil advocate by the very fact,” the organization criticized. “The belief that no government has the right to tyrannize the entire world by promoting the extraction and burning of fossil fuels marks one as a dangerous radical.”
