Very tragic! A 26-year-old from Innsbruck died Saturday morning after a fall of about 50 meters during a training in Salzburg. At about 3,080 meters above sea level, the man lost his balance.
On the northern ridge of the Großer Geiger in Neuchkirchen, the 26-year-old lost his balance on a loose boulder and fell. According to police, an instructor responded quickly, but could not prevent the fall. The rope broke, probably due to a sliding movement over a sharp rock edge.
All help came too late
The young Tyrolean fell about 50 meters into the depths. The alpinists present provided first aid, but the emergency doctor could only determine that the alpinist was dead. The deceased was rescued by the Libelle police helicopter.
