German folk music star Michael Hartl (75) had a lot of bad luck during a bike ride in Tyrol! “The helmet saved me,” he said with conviction.
The singer and his wife Marianne (71) were on their e-bikes heading towards St. Johann. In the idyllic community near Kitzbühel, they wanted to meet friends at a farmers market, reports “Bild”. However, it would turn out differently…
“The asphalt road suddenly went very steeply downhill. “Michael braked hard, his e-bike stopped and he flew over,” Marianne Hartl told the newspaper.
The singer landed on his face at full speed – the result was a crack in his chin and abrasions on his nose. His elbows and fingers were also injured, and he also bruised his thoracic vertebrae.
“I have been very lucky. The helmet saved me,” Michael Hartl told “Bild”. “Before I left, I secured the helmet so it fits properly and doesn’t wobble.”
Residents have closed the street
After the accident, residents closed the street. His wife called the emergency services, who took him to the hospital. “The medical team was great. They stitched up the wound on his chin and did a CT scan of his head to rule out that Michael had injured his head. Thank God everything was fine. He doesn’t even have a concussion. If he hadn’t been wearing a helmet, the accident would have been different.”
Currently only soups and porridge are on the menu
However, the investigations have not yet been fully completed – the jaw still needs to be observed. “He also fell forcefully through his teeth. At the moment he is not allowed to bite, he only eats soup and porridge.” Marianne purees oatmeal for him for breakfast.
Michael still has pain, especially in his chest. “When I was flying, my only thought was: I hope nothing happens to me. “I really had a guardian angel again,” Michael told “Bild”. In fact, the singer probably has a lot of it: in May 2022 he suffered a stroke that left no permanent damage.
Michael and Marianne don’t want to let their summer vacation be ruined. When the doctors give the thumbs up after the planned jaw examination, the couple wants to recover in Croatia. And digest the great horror first.
