In the center of Hamburg on Tuesday, a 19-year-old driver drove his 600 hp Mercedes into a group of people in front of a bank branch. The horrific result: four injured, one of whom had to be resuscitated and is in danger of life.
Another pedestrian, the 19-year-old, and his passenger – apparently the young man’s father – were injured in the accident and also went to nearby hospitals for medical care.
The 19-year-old was driving too fast
According to a fire department spokesman, about 25 emergency services were at the scene of the accident near the bank branch on Jungfernstieg. According to eyewitness reports, the car was driving relatively fast.
Collided with a VW bus
According to information from the “Hamburger Abendblatt”, the 19-year-old driver of his powerful Mercedes collided at high speed with the outdoor seating of a restaurant and a VW van parked there at around 10:15 a.m.
The front of the Mercedes then crashed through the bank branch’s access doors and came to a stop. According to police, the vehicle involved in the accident was a Mercedes AMG GLE 63S Coupé with over 600 horsepower.
“The force of the collision with the parked van caused it to move forward and hit a pedestrian, who suffered life-threatening injuries,” Hamburg police said Tuesday afternoon.
