Hundreds of bank safes plundered, 400,000 euros stolen! A trio from Lithuania appeared in court in Salzburg on Tuesday and performed a bizarre spectacle…
The charges are huge and the prosecution is taking a long time! Three men from Lithuania appeared in the regional court on Tuesday. The trio is said to have been breaking into and plundering bank safes throughout Austria for years. According to the public prosecutor, the men stole almost 400,000 euros and there was also enormous material damage.
In the dock, the Lithuanians, all between 43 and 52 years old, became entangled in contradictions. The three known men – one of the defendants already has fourteen previous convictions (!) – have only partially confessed.
Gaps in memory and confusing information
One man claimed responsibility for just two burglaries in Deutschlandsberg and Kapfenberg. However, he said he had memory problems due to his “drug and alcohol use”. He gave Judge Günther Nocker completely different information than he gave the police when he was questioned a few months ago.
Why? “The police told me what to say,” the Lithuanian maniacally claimed. The judge could only shake his head in disbelief. The other two defendants also gave little useful information.
Several years in prison
The court was not convinced. In the late afternoon, all three Lithuanians were given longer prison sentences of 4.5, 3 and 1.5 years. The verdicts are already legally binding.
