A large search operation took place at the Tyrolean Achensee on Monday evening. Numerous water rescue and fire brigades were involved. Drones were also launched. Shortly before midnight, however, the search was called off without result.
“We were warned at 21:42,” says Lukas Fankhauser of the Achensee water rescue service in an interview with the “Krone”. A caller raised the alarm and claimed that a surfboard with a sail was floating in the Achensee near the Prince’s House.
Help Wanted
“We then alerted the water rescue teams from Innsbruck and Kramsach.” According to Fankhauser, there were eventually 32 members and five motorboats on site. “There was also a diving team on standby.”
Search cancelled without results
Together with the fire brigades of Pertisau, Achenkirch and Eben, the lake was systematically searched. Drones and thermal imaging cameras were also used. Around 23:45, it was decided to cancel the operation. “We did not discover the surfboard or other people,” Fankhauser continued.
No further searches are planned for the time being. “At this time, we have no reports of a missing person.”
